HE DISCIPLINES THE ONES HE LOVES
I just wanted to share another of my (many!) failings and chat about a lesson God has been lovingly teaching me.
Over the last few months I’ve really struggled with song writing, no real ideas, same old melodies / chords, lyrics etc…?I did all the things that people advise…resting from writing, writing away from the your instrument, reading books, listening to new music etc…Yet every time I sat down to wright, NOTHING!
If I’m honest this started to wind me up, so I remember ranting at God to sort it out, why had he given me an opportunity to write for the wider church and yet no songs! Then God challenged me with a question,
‘Who, why and what are you writing for?’
When I stopped throwing out all the ‘right’ answers like ‘Well…for You and for your church of course,’ I allowed God to search my heart and He lovingly showed me that I was just writing to get enough songs for the upcoming Album and for the sake of having another song to my name, rather than out of love for Him and desire to equip his church with fresh songs of worship.
To my shame, He was right (as always!)
I humbled myself, cleaned up my motives and vowed to start again all for HIS glory not mine, and yes, you guessed it…new ideas are coming and new songs are starting to flow! Praise God!
It amazes me how amazing God is and how He loving disciples the ones He loves.
‘My child, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline, and don’t be upset when he corrects you. For the Lord corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights’. Proverbs 3: 11-12
I just wanted to share this to encourage you and challenge you to check your motives and to maybe start asking the Question, ‘God what are you wanting to lovingly teach me?’.

Great post. Glad to hear the creativity is flowing once again.
