INTERVIEW – NIKKI FLETCHER

Over the next few weeks I will be ‘interviewing’ people who I look up to in the ‘worship ministry’ and who are just amazing people! First up Is Nikki Fletcher

Please can you tell us about yourself and what do you do?
My name is Nikki… I lead worship at HTB where my husband and I go to church. I also love to write songs and be involved in raising up worship leaders, and ministering to young women! My husband and I are from Sydney Australia but we relocated to London less than a year ago.

How and when did you become a Christian?
I grew up as a pastors kid so church was always a huge part of my life from the beginning. I’ve always felt I’ve known God for myself, I can’t remember not knowing Him… But in saying that I didn’t make a decision to actually follow him until I was about eighteen. Because I grew up in an environment where I was expected to believe certain things and not question too much, my rebellious side reared its head as an early teenager, and for a few years I was quite resentful about church and very skeptical. But God was on my case and one day sitting right at the back of a church service I just knew it was time to commit my life to serving God.

What song personally means the most to you and why?
Gosh… There a thousand songs that have helped me… But to choose just one! I don’t think I can, but I can say that my favourite worship songs are all the Psalms. David – from the shepherd boy to the greatest King of Israel, wrote songs that have led millions of us over the ages in worship. These songs are a constant encouragement to our soul, but also glorify our God.

What books would you recommend as ‘must reads’?
The Bible. The Psalms.

What are the most important things you think every worship leader should know?
Keep a pure heart, always.
Keep coming back to God, in truth, without a mask on. Humble yourself, let Him lead you, change you, teach you and fill you. Then you will overflow with worship and praise that will draw others to Him as well.

Any other words of wisdom?
Love people and love God’s church. Serve faithfully. Do what you love and what you are good at!
