OLD VS NEW

On radio 1 there was a debate the other night on what is better; old songs or new. As you can imagine there were heated debates over txt and email as people argued their point.

It got me thinking about this in a church context as I have heard similar debates on this topic. Personally I think we need both, to learn from and use the best of the rich heritage of songs yet still moving forward, pushing boundries and moving with the times. Even better, I love it when we can take an “old” song and give it a contemporary makeover.

Can YOU help?
I was wondering if any of you out there could help me on my hunt for more hymns to “resurrect.”
I love hymns for their biblical content, the language (although some is confusing to me!) and just the fact they have been sung down the generations and I want to find some more gems to inject some life into and use congregationally again.

I heard “I stand amazed in the presence” (how marvellous, how wonderful,) at SS and “Lord for the years” at the YW conf and thought there must be a wealth of Old Skool songs yet to be dusted down and given some new life to….

So far I mainly use: (other than the 2 mentioned)
Praise my soul,
Oh Lord my God,
Crown him with many crowns,
Holy, Holy. Holy, Lord God all mighty
Thine be the glory
My song is love unknown
Love Divine
Our God is an awesome God (tag)
Jesus we enthrone You

So any ideas??
